About the Department

MedStar is a nationally recognized EMS agency serving over 1 million residents across 436 square miles in 15 Tarrant County cities. With 600+ employees and 75-78 ambulances, MedStar responds to over 190,000 calls per year. The agency holds dual CAAS and IAED accreditation — one of only 33 agencies nationally with both distinctions. MedStar pioneered the mobile integrated healthcare model and community paramedicine programs. In 2025, MedStar merged with the Fort Worth Fire Department to create Fort Worth Emergency Medical Service.
